Corporate Strategy, BA 453 Capstone

Costco: Kirkland for ALL

As part of a five-person team in my corporate strategy capstone (BA 453), I helped develop and pitch a strategic recommendation for Costco Wholesale. Our proposal, "Kirkland for ALL," introduced a free-tier membership model giving non-members access exclusively to Kirkland Signature products during designated shopping hours, designed to expand Costco's customer base, drive merchandise revenue, and reduce over-reliance on membership fees.

01. The Proposal

A free-tier membership giving non-members access to Kirkland Signature products during designated hours, opening a new revenue stream without cannibalizing existing memberships.

02. My Role

Designed the presentation deck, delivered the introduction and current position analysis, built the SWOT, and led competitor research covering Sam's Club, Amazon, Target, and online grocery platforms.

03. Core Concept

Developed the "Kirkland for ALL" concept and authored the risk and contingency sections, identifying three primary implementation threats and outlining response strategies for each.

04. Financial Projections

The team modeled a five-year path to $13B in net income, with total revenue growing from $338B to $420B by 2030.

05. Competitive Landscape

Mapped Costco's position against Sam's Club, Amazon, Target, and emerging online grocery platforms to ground the recommendation in real market dynamics.
